Anatomy of a Ritual: Finding Time for Friendship

We all have our rituals—the things we mindfully do every day, each week or sometimes, simply as often as we can, that help to center us. Whether it’s dabbing a beloved scent on a wrist each morning or phoning a friend at the end of a long day, our rituals remind us that there’s beauty in the little things and help us to find and celebrate the pause in life.

We sat down with Meredith Soden, our Marketing and Community Manager at EO Products, to talk about her ritual of spending time with friends both near and far. When Meredith isn’t managing our community engagement and donations program or working on PR initiatives, you can find her cooking, attempting to garden, and traveling.

Team EO: Hey Mere! Thanks for taking a moment to talk, how are things?

Meredith: Things are good! Busy as usual, never a dull moment here at EO. We’ve been making some great strides with growing our community engagement program and I’m really proud of it. We have so many amazing and supportive partners.

Team EO: That’s wonderful to hear the Community program is doing so well! So, we’ve been talking about rituals lately and how they translate into our relationships. We wanted to ask you if you have any rituals around friendship. Can you tell us a little about that?

Meredith: I have a regular ritual of taking walks with my friends. I’ve found that taking a walk is a great time to unwind while catching up with people and appreciating my surroundings.

I also love to travel and have friends that live in some really cool cities throughout the country. Over the years I’ve been fortunate to visit friends in some awesome places like New Orleans, New York, Chicago, Denver and Seattle among others. Making a point to visit has been a great way to see new cities while getting some quality face time in with long distance friends.

Team EO: That’s so cool. So, would you recommend this ritual to other folks?

Meredith: Absolutely. By taking the time each week to connect with friends, you know you’re working on those relationships and checking in on your people. And visiting long distance friends doubles up as a chance to explore new places. Win-win.

Team EO: Such great advice! Makes me want to call a friend in another city and start planning a trip! Thank you so much for taking the time to talk today.

Meredith: Thanks for asking! It’s actually really nice to reflect on how these little habits become part of our routines.

What’s on your screen? Game of Thrones, The Americans. I can’t wait for the second season of Stranger Things to start.

What’s in your ears? I have music playing constantly. Lately it’s been a lot of the band War on Drugs and some old rock and roll stuff. I would be lost without the My Favorite Murder podcast to get me through drives to/from work.
