DIY Thursday: Makeup Brush Refresher

Thursday again? You know it! That means we’ve got a fresh new essential oil DIY project for you.

This week, we’re using shampoo, conditioner, and essential oils to clean and refresh those funky, gunky makeup brushes. No shame in your makeup bag game, everyone’s brushes need a good scrubbing once in a while!

Here’s What You’ll Need:

All the brushes you use
2 tablespoons Everyone™ Balance Shampoo
1 tablespoon Everyone™ Balance Conditioner
6 drops Focus aromatherapeutic blend
¼ cup hot water
2 small bowls (such as a ramekin or clean, empty baby food jar)

Some notes on why we chose these ingredients:

-Our Everyone Balance Shampoo is made with mild, sulfate-free surfactants that work to effectively wash away dirt and extraneous oils. Our Everyone Balance Conditioner is made with Organic Coconut Oil and Abyssinian Oil, both incredibly hydrating and strengthening to hair and bristly tools.

-Both the Shampoo and Conditioner contain 100% pure Clary Sage and Tea Tree essential oils, which have been regarded for centuries for their clarifying properties.

-The Everyone Focus blend contains 100% pure Rosemary, Peppermint, Orange, and Lemon essential oils, which help to refresh both your brushes and your senses.

-Essential oils are being studied for their cleansing superpowers, so adding a few drops will not only make your brushes smell amazing, it could even make your brushes cleaner!

Here’s What To Do:

  1. Combine shampoo, essential oils, and half the water in one bowl and lightly mix together. Combine conditioner and the rest of the water in another bowl and lightly mix together.

Add your essential oils

  1. Dip one brush at a time into the shampoo bowl, soaking up a good amount of cleaning mixture.
  1. Use the palm of your hand as a base to clean against. Be gentle on the bristles but use enough pressure to disperse caked-on makeup.
  1. When your brush appears clean, rinse it thoroughly with warm water and pat dry.
  1. Dip the brush into the conditioner bowl and repeat steps 3 and 4.

  1. Lay brushes out flat on a clean towel to dry. (Avoid drying your brushes vertically with the bristles up, as water will settle where the bristles meet the base and can rust.)

Repeat steps with each brush until you’ve cleaned and conditioned your whole set.

Now your makeup brushes are deep cleaned, smell great, and are worthy of touching your beautiful face!
