DIY Project: Nourishing Beard Oil
The perfect project for the bushy-faced fellas in your life!
Let’s face it, beards can get a little rough and bristly. The skin underneath can get chafed and irritated, and let’s not even talk about ingrown hairs. All that is about to change because today we’re going to make homemade beard oil using natural plant oils and pure essential oils.
First, why is it important to condition your beard?
Just like the hair on your head, the hair on your face is up against the elements every day. Adding some much-needed moisture to your beard is important to keep it looking and feeling its healthiest. The skin underneath those face tresses will be happier too.
When should you use beard oil?
It’s best to use this oil after you’ve washed your beard in the shower. Shampoo it thoroughly. Exfoliate, if you’re feeling fancy. You want a fresh, clean surface to start with.
How do you use beard oil?
Give that beard a good towel-dry and use your dropper to add two to three drops to your hands. Warm the oil in your hands and apply to your beard, making sure to cover it evenly. Work into the whole length of your beard, down to your skin.
*A note about these ingredients: the carrier oils can be found at your local grocery store, health food/supplement store, or natural retailer. They won’t be cheap, but they will last a while and you’ll be able to use these in lots of other DIY projects.
Your skin will love the combination of Coconut and Sweet Almond oils. We chose this conditioning combo because they both absorb quickly and won’t leave your hair or skin looking greasy. You can also use Jojoba, Argan, and Hemp Seed oils – these all make great bases for a moisturizing beard oil.
Here’s what you’ll need to make your own natural beard oil:
½ oz. Fractionated Coconut Oil
½ oz. Sweet Almond Oil
12 drops Fresh essential oil blend
2 drops Peppermint essential oil
1 oz. bottle with dropper – recycling existing bottles is best! You can reuse our EO Ageless collection bottles or our Everyone essential oils for smaller batches.
Flask funnel – we found this tiny funnel in the beverage section of the grocery store.
Here’s what to do:
Combine all ingredients in your 1 oz. bottle and give it some solid shake action to blend your oils. One batch should stay fresh for about 6 months. Keep it out of extreme temperatures. Use as often as your face prefers.
