Inside Information – Refill Revolution

Here’s a scary fact: there’s over eight million metric tons of plastic in our oceans right now. Reducing single use plastics is one way we can personally reduce plastics in our landfills and oceans. We here at EO are really into reducing waste, we’ve been looking for ways to recycle, reduce, and reuse for decades.

One way you can reduce your single use plastic waste in your home is by refilling smaller bottles with our gallon refills, giving each bottle more than one life. We’ve outlined our recommendations on how to get the most out of joining the refill revolution.

  1. Use All The Product

It may appeal to your aesthetic to keep your bottles full, but it’s important to use all of the soap, lotion, or shampoo in the bottle before refilling. This will keep the product fresh and reduce the chance of contamination.

  1. Wash and Dry

Thoroughly wash and dry the bottle (use a bottle brush for quick and easy cleaning) before refilling. This will keep your bottle clean and reduce the chance of contamination.

  1. Refill!

Fill your bottle to the neck of the bottle, this will allow enough room for pump tops to fill themselves and work properly. Enjoy your blue bottle’s new life and congratulate yourself on reducing unnecessary plastic waste and saving yourself a trip to the store!

When your bottles are no longer fit to be refilled (they crack, bend, or won’t get clean) you can cut the tops off and use them as pen holders, vases, or these sweet little DIY herb gardens.

I have been using the coconut lemon body lotion for years, but every time i need to buy a new one i wish there was a refill for it. It seems like such a waste, with all the plastic in this world. It would be wonderful if you had a refill in a bag like some companies have for soap.

Thanks for your feedback, Joan! We’ll share your comments with our Product Development team. We wish we could offer refills in every product for the very reason you mentioned.
